PRESENTED AT ESA PALACE ‘FRUTECH’
MEDITERRANEAN FRUIT&VEGETABLE EXPO
‘Frutech – Mediterranean Fruit&Vegetables Expo’, the major Mediterranean trade fair event to the theme of agriculture and technological innovations, was presented at the headquarters of the Sicilian Region, Esa Palace, in Catania. The heart of the fair will be agriculture, processed belt products, organic production, innovation and technology, to be held from November 28 to 30, 2024, at the SiciliaFiera exhibition center, in Misterbianco – Catania.
The president of the SiciliaFiera exhibition center, Nino Di Cavolo in his speech stressed, “Sicily, a land of millenary traditions and a rich and varied agriculture, needs to look to the future. Given our strategic position in the Mediterranean, our hub is the ideal place to combine tradition and innovation, presenting the latest in agricultural machinery and precision farming technologies. In this way, we contribute to making farms increasingly competitive and sustainable. We believe strongly in research, and investing in cutting-edge agricultural technologies is key to preserving and enhancing the agri-food heritage.”
In attendance was Regional Agriculture Councillor Salvatore Barbagallo, who said, “Investment in technological innovation is needed to meet the new challenges of the agricultural sector. Major trade fair events like Frutech allow us to put innovative ideas and experiences into circulation that we can put to use to make our agriculture increasingly competitive.”
Scientific research is a strategic lever for the development of agriculture that is sustainable, efficient and able to meet the challenges of the future. It represents a key investment to: increase agricultural production; reduce environmental impact; improve the quality of agricultural products; ensure food security; adapt to climate change; and promote rural development.
The chair of the scientific technical committee is Professor Alessandra Gentile, professor of General Arboriculture and Tree Crops, University of Catania. Assisted by Professor Giancarlo Colelli of the University of Foggia; Professor Angelo Frascarelli of the University of Perugia; Professors Barbara Manichini and Vittorio D’Amico of the University of Palermo; Professor Marina Collina of the University of Bologna; Professor Stefano La Malfa of the University of Catania; and from the same University, Professor Simona Consoli; Professor Cherubino Leonardi; Professor Mario D’Amico; and Professor Agatino Russo are part of the team.
Three intense days of networking, meetings, panel discussions inside the largest exhibition area in the South, in the heart of the Mediterranean. Giving an international connotation is the presence of Bulgarian Ambassador Todor Stojanov and honorary consuls present in the Sicilian territory. In addition, during the days of the fair, companies will be able to meet with more than 20 international buyers.
